SECOND IMSA VICTORY FOR LEXUS RC F GT3
The Lexus RC F GT3 has claimed its second victory of the season in the GT Daytona (GTD) class of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in the United States.
Kyle Marcelli and Dominik Baumann repeated their class-leading performance from Mid-Ohio in May to win the GTD class in their #14 3GT Racing Lexus RC F GT3 at Virginia International Raceway last weekend.
Marcelli began from fourth position before handing over to Baumann who benefited when some of the leading contenders were caught in a multiple collision.
Baumann led the final 18 laps around the 17-turn, 5.26km circuit to secure the 3GT Racing team's second victory and third podium finish.
Baumann said it was a special feeling to get the second win for his team.
"I was just watching from behind, and just watching how they (rivals) struggled to stay on the track. That was the key to the win, just making no mistakes," Baumann said.
Baumann and Marcelli are now fifth in IMSA's provisional championship point standings. Their win has moved Lexus into third place in the GTD championship standings with two races remaining.
3GT Racing will return to competition on Sunday, September 9, at the Monterey Grand Prix at the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, the penultimate round of the 2018 series. Lexus will be the official luxury vehicle at the California road course.
